What is your process for Architectural Photography?

Architectural projects are the result of years of collaboration, creativity, and craftsmanship. Considering this, it's important we capture the story of a space in a way that represents your vision, brand, and project beautifully.

To achieve this, we'll collaborate closely with you to understand the space, determining the angles and lighting conditions that best showcase the unique traits of the project. We'll use specialized photo equipment, lighting techniques, and expert post-production skills to capture your work in a way that clearly communicates its creative value while maintaining a natural aesthetic. Our goal is to provide images that elevate architectural projects without the appearance of being over produced. We'll focus on natural lighting, and any designed light in the space, only introducing artificial light to enhance the existing aesthetics.

What are your rates?

Architectural Photography rates are structured in the following way. For a detailed estimate tailored to your project, please reach out.

Creative Fee: This per-day fee covers pre-production, research + planning, local travel, setup, time on location, equipment, lighting and minor staging, assistant and on-site coordination. A typical day results in 15-20 images being created.
Post Production: This per-image fee includes file handling, storage and delivery, as well as blemish removal, lighting adjustments, exposure merging, color correction, perspective adjustments, basic retouching and final adjustments.
Standard Use License: This includes the right to use the images commercially for the client and is built into the two costs above. Details on licensing will be included in estimates and contracts.

Do you offer discounts?

There is a great way to lower your cost on an architectural photography project by getting multiple parties involved through a cost sharing agreement. For each additional party joins a photoshoot, a 30% fee will be added to the project total to include them in the licensing agreement, allowing for the per party cost to drop significantly. Here is an example:

2 Parties: $4,000 shoot cost + 30% = $5,200 or $2,600 ea. (35% savings)
4 Parties: $4,000 shoot cost + 90% = $7,600 or $1,900 ea. (52% savings)

Interested parties could include: Architects, interior designer, landscape architect, construction firm, sub-contractors, materials vendors, furniture vendors, flooring and window vendors, rental owners, etc.

Do you travel for shoots?

We believe that our work speaks louder than our location. Charles is located in Bozeman, Montana but we'll support clients wherever they may be. We genuinely enjoy the opportunity to travel and immerse ourselves in new and inspiring environments.

Who owns the rights to photos after a shoot?

Photography remains the copyrighted work of the photographer. We retain all rights to photos, and register every image with the US Copyright Office. Clients are granted licenses to use the photos as needed. A license is included with every photoshoot, and can be tailored to your exact needs.

This is mutually beneficial for many reasons, a few of which are:

Quality Assurance: By allowing photographers to retain copyright, clients benefit from the photographers' expertise and dedication to delivering high-quality work. By maintaining ownership, photographers can maintain control over the quality and consistency of the final deliverables, throughout the entire life of the photograph. This also means that photographers can use the photos on their portfolios: Viewing a photographer's portfolio can give clients confidence in their abilities and help them make informed decisions when selecting a photographer for their project.

Required Resources: Imagine if when you purchased a software like Powerpoint you owned the software instead of just paying for a license. It would require significant resources to maintain, improve, and most importantly protect something like that! The same goes for photography - If people start stealing and manipulating the images that you have paid to commission, that robs you of the rarity of your images, and it's unlikely your business is set up to discover and pursue any unauthorized use. We have automated systems to find, report and legally handle misuse, keeping your images yours.

Flexibility in Licensing: Retaining copyright enables photographers to grant clients specific usage rights through licensing agreements. This provides clients with flexibility in how they can use the commissioned images. This arrangement ensures that clients only pay for their specific needs and are not overpaying for complete ownership which comes at a significant cost.

Future Adaptation and Repurposing: Photographers often repurpose their works for various reasons in the future, such as exhibitions, third party licensing, or other commercial ventures. By maintaining copyright, photographers have the freedom to explore these opportunities while still respecting the agreed-upon usage rights granted to clients. Clients may even have the chance to benefit indirectly from these future adaptations if their commissioned work gains additional exposure or becomes part of a notable project. As an example: Charles' photos for Winter Park Resort have been published in 4 different print magazines ranging from Freeskier to Denver Life, each with articles directly discussing the Winter Park area free of any charge or effort from them.

Industry Standard Practice: It's worth noting that the practice of photographers retaining copyright and ownership is widely accepted and respected within the photography industry. By aligning with this standard, clients can have confidence that they are working with experienced professionals who are committed to maintaining the integrity of their work.

Can I share the photos with other parties?

Third party usage is not included in licensing agreements. Third parties interested in the photos can either join a cost sharing agreement (See discounts question above) or pay to license individual photos through us after the shoot is completed.

What is your process for Adventure Photography?

Our journey begins with understanding your specific goals and objectives. Discussions to ensure the essence of your brand and goals are understood enables us to align a creative vision with your desired outcomes.

Whether we're documenting an experience, highlighting the functionality of products in the outdoors, or capturing the essence of a location, we're committed to delivering exceptional images that resonate with your target audience.

Before the shoot, we'll collaborate closely to plan the logistics. This could include creating shotlists, moodboards, scouting locations, considering weather conditions, and preparing any necessary equipment, models, props, and supplies for the shoot.

Throughout the shoot, we'll be on the lookout for those hero shots we always look to come home with, but we also focus on capturing the emotions, camaraderie, and experience shared by the individuals involved. These genuine moments of connection and passion add depth and authenticity to our images. Flexibility is essential during adventure shoots, as we may encounter unpredictable weather conditions or unforeseen changes in plans. We're always ready to embrace the unexpected and find creative and unexpected solutions.

After the shoot is completed, we sort through images, choosing selects and editing them. Final image counts can vary drastically for these types of shoots but aiming for 5 great shots with another 10-20 supporting photographs per day is a good starting point.

What types of outdoor activities do you specialize in capturing?

We specialize in capturing a wide range of outdoor activities, including running, hiking, backpacking, skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, fishing, and more. If it's an adventure, we're probably in! If your project requires very specific technical skills, such as multi-pitch climbing, whitewater, or committing distances in the backcountry, we'll need to chat about logistics, capabilities and safety, as well as skill levels of all involved.

What is your process for Product Photography?

Product Photography can mean very different things to different brands! We'll need to talk about your specific goals and objectives. That said, it might looks something like this:

Before the shoot, we'll collaborate closely to plan the logistics. This could include creating shotlists, moodboards, scouting locations or backgrounds, considering weather conditions, and preparing any necessary equipment, models, props, and supplies for the shoot.

Throughout the shoot, we'll be on the lookout for those hero shots we always look to come home with, but we also focus on capturing the natural interactions and experiences shared by the individuals utilizing the product. If our products are staged without the involvement of people, finding and styling the space will be our priority. After the shoot is completed, we sort through images, choosing selects and editing them.

What are your rates?

Product Photography rates are usually structured in the following way. For a detailed estimate tailored to your project, please reach out.

Creative Fee: This per-day fee covers pre-production, research + planning, local travel, setup, time on location, equipment, lighting and minor staging, assistant and on-site coordination. A typical day results in 5-10 great shots with another 10-20 supporting photographs.

Model Fee: This hourly, half, or full-day fee covers booking, local travel, time on location, and on-site coordination for a model to join our shoot.

With a clear understanding of your business, we develop a brand strategy that outlines the key elements of your brand's identity. This includes defining your brand's personality, tone of voice, brand messaging, and unique value proposition. That all said, our branding process is custom tailored to each project, so we are flexible to what process and outcomes may work best. At the end of the day, we are here as a business partner and are not interested in just making a pretty logo.

Do you work with remote clients?

We believe that our work speaks louder than our location. Charles is located in Bozeman, Montana and while we love meeting in person, many of our clients are remote!

Who owns the branding assets produced?

Clients will own everything in the scope of work that is completed, deemed final, and delivered for use. We will maintain the right to showcase the work in our portfolio or use it for self-promotion, along with ownership of ideas, concepts or designs we didn't move forward with.

I am starting a new business, when should I start thinking about branding?

Ideally, you should start thinking about branding as soon as you have a clear idea of your business concept! Much of the research and discovery we will do can be helpful during the beginning phases of a starting a business. The branding process IS part of the starting process, and will help you navigate your unique value proposition, target audience, brand awareness, and integrations. The branding process is also a motivational factor for founders, seeing a brand come to life before the business is launched is inspiring after all the work put in behind the curtains so far!

What is your process for Illustration?

Our process for Illustration can vary depending on the specific needs and goals of a project, but it typically looks something like this:

Discovery and Briefing: We begin by discussing your project in detail to understand your goals, audience, and desired style. We'll explore your ideas, gather any references or inspiration you may have, and ask relevant questions to ensure a clear understanding of your vision.

Concept Development: Concepts can be brought to us by the client, or we can build out a deck of potential concepts based on our initial discussion. We'll then create concept sketches and/or mood boards that capture the essence of your project. These visual representations will help us align our creative direction and ensure that we're heading in the right direction before moving forward.

Detailed Rendering: Once the concept is approved, we'll proceed with the actual illustration. This involves refining the composition, adding color, and enhancing the overall visual appeal of the illustration. We utilize various digital tools and techniques to bring your illustration to life with precision and attention to detail.

Finalization and Delivery: After the detailed illustration is complete, we can take care of any minor revisions or adjustments. We'll then provide you with the high-resolution files in the preferred format, ensuring they are ready for use in your intended applications.

What are your rates?

Illustration rates are custom tailored to each individual project. We're going to have to talk! That said, most of our Illustration work falls in the $1-5k range to give a rough idea.

Do you offer discounts?

There are no direct discounts available for Illustrations. It is possible to save money by licensing an illustration commission instead of purchasing it outright. Please reach out for questions.

Do you work with remote clients?

We believe that our work speaks louder than our location. Charles is located in Bozeman, Montana, and our team is located throughout the US - and while we love meeting in person, many of our clients are remote!

Who owns the Illustrations produced?

Ownership of illustration work is available at an additional fee and will be included in the proposal.

Are Illustrations right for my Business?

Through research and analysis we'll  gain insights into your industry and competitors. Do to the quality of the work, we do not offer discounts or refunds on website projects.

Will my website be customizable and easy for me to update in the future?

Yes! We believe in empowering our clients to have full control over their websites. User-friendly interfaces and intuitive content management systems are one of our goals.

What platforms do you work with?

Our team is proficient in popular CMS platforms such as WordPress, Webflow, and Shopify, among others. We'll carefully assess your project requirements and recommend the most suitable platform that aligns with your goals, budget, and desired functionality.

The post production process is an intensive part of architectural photography. Blending multiple exposures by hand, removing unwanted items, and going from a raw file to finished photo can take hours in some cases. Below are examples showing the best raw, out of camera shot to the final product.
